Two women were hit in the crosswalk today at 7th and Lincoln. One went to the hospital in an ambulance. Steamboat Springs Police Sgt. Evan Noble says a pickup truck was turning left onto Lincoln, heading south on 7th. The driver is a 51-year-old male from South Routt County. Sgt. Noble says he was cited for Careless Driving that caused Injury. Sgt. Noble also sends a reminder for drivers to always look carefully for pedestrians before driving through crosswalks.

Holt Lemaster is being sentenced in Routt County District Court this morning. The 18-year-old pled guilty to 1st Degree Assault for an alleged knife attack on a local pre-school teacher in April of 2024, when she was house-sitting for a family during Spring Break. Lemaster was 16 at the time.

Today (Friday, Dec. 5) is a lockdown drill at Steamboat Springs High School. Each school in the district is required to conduct four lockdown drills each year and an evacuation/fire drill each month. Today is one of the lockdown drills at the high school. Families have been notified in the parent newsletter.

The South Routt Education Endowment Fund has received a $75,000 anonymous donation. The South Routt School District serves many communities including Stagecoach, Oak Creek, Phippsburg, Yampa, Toponas and the surrounding areas. The goal of the endowment fund is $1 million, and it is now at $640,000.
“This is absolutely amazing! To our anonymous donor, please know that your selflessness and commitment to education are profoundly appreciated,” says Peggy Barnes, volunteer fundraising team member who taught for many years in the South Routt School District.

Colorado Northwestern Community College has announced new leadership. Anya Peterson Frey is Vice President for Business Services. Laura Dulgar is Vice President for Student Services. They start Dec. 8.

Thursday was the Yampa Valley Gives Rally on the snowy courthouse lawn, hosted by Yampa Valley Community Foundation. Routt County nonprofits were in attendance and getting ready for Yampa Valley Gives Day this Tuesday, Dec. 9.

The Holiday Artisan Market is Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5-6, at the Moffat County Pavilion in Craig. It’s the 15th year for the annual event, presented by Yampa Valley Artisans. Hours are 3-6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6.

Saturday is opening day for Howelsen Hill, after that opening day was delayed for a week. Ski Free Sunday is Sunday at Howelsen Hill.

Kids 12 and under ski free at Steamboat Resort, the week of Dec. 6-12. No adult purchase necessary. There’s also a 50% discount on kids’ group lessons and equipment rentals.

Santa Claus will be at his Santa House in Civic Plaza from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6. Civic Plaza is on 10th Street between Lincoln and Oak, next to the Steamboat Springs Fire Station. If you’re waiting to see Santa, you can also stop by the Veterans Center at 924 Lincoln Ave. They’ll be open with treats and hot cocoa.

Holidays in the Rockies is at the Depot Art Center on the next three Saturdays. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It’s a holiday tradition with artist vendors featuring fine art, handmade goods, crafts, food items and unique gifts.

The 17th Annual Holiday Tree Festival in Hayden is Sunday afternoon in the Exhibit Hall at the Routt County Fairgrounds. Doors open at 1 p.m. Sunday and the auction begins at 1:30 p.m. It’s a fundraiser for many local nonprofits.

The defending state champion Steamboat Sailors Boys Hockey Team has an away game at 4:30 p.m. today against Caprock at the River City SportPlex in Grand Junction.
SoRoCo High School is hosting a wrestling this weekend with dual matches on Friday and a tournament on Saturday, with 14 boys teams and 13 girls teams competing. The new Steamboat Sailors girls wrestling team will be there Saturday.
The Moffat County Girls Wrestling Team is off to Greeley West today and the Bulldog Boys are in Grand Junction.
The Steamboat Sailors Boys Basketball Team is at a tournament in Montrose. The Girls Basketball team is at a tournament at Roaring Fork High School in Carbondale.
The SoRoCo and Hayden Girls basketball teams are at a tournament in Meeker. The Hayden Boys are at a tournament in Utah.
The Lady Bulldogs host Aspen this evening.
