The 113th Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival is this week. Royalty has been announced by Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. This year’s Grand Marshals are Nancy and Roger Perricone.

 

Moguls skier Reise Wilson is the 113th Winter Carnival Queen.

 

Cross Country skier Davis Brosterhous is the Junior Attendant.

 

Alpine racer Naia Broggi is the Sophomore Attendant.

More details on Winter Carnival Royalty is on the link below. This year’s royalty and the Little Princesses will be introduced at Opening Ceremonies Wednesday evening in Olympian Hall at Howelsen Hill.

Twenty-four past Olympians from Steamboat Springs were honored Saturday night at the base of Steamboat Resort, for a Ski Town USA Celebration. Those nine athletes and one Para skier were also recognized at the celebration which also had a drone show. One of those athletes was able to be there. Riley Jacobs from Oak Creek was at the celebration and now she’s off to Italy for the Winter Games, to compete in Women’s Freeski Halfpipe.

Applications for the 2026 Spring Scholarship Season for students in Routt and Moffat counties are now open through YVCF.org/scholarships.These are scholarships for post-secondary education, including vocational, 2-year, and 4-year colleges. Most scholarships close on March 15.

Last year, through the Yampa Valley Community Foundation, $614,400 was given out with 215 awards.

Yampa Valley Community Foundation has announced three new scholarship opportunities for students in Northwest Colorado. The three scholarships are the Liman Family Scholarship, the Out & Proud Yampa Valley Scholarship, and the YVEA Farming & Ranching Scholarship.

 

Steamboat Mountain School sends word of over $1.5 million in scholarships for available for students. One is the Founders Scholarship for Academic Excellence for 9th grade day students. Information is available at SteamboatMountainSchool.org

 

Steamboat Christian Academy has announced they will move from their temporary home in Concordia Lutheran Church to occupy a wing of the Heritage Park School building in the fall, sharing with Steamboat Montessori. The school will serve Kindergarten through 8th graders. They’re hoping to make the school more accessible to families from Hayden and other areas outside of town. A shuttle will run for families from South Routt.

Northwest Colorado Health is offering a Walk With Ease exercise class starting today in Craig. It’s from 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays at Centennial Mall in Craig. It’s a fun walking group and all abilities are welcome. There is a $3 suggested donation per class, but no one is turned away due to inability to pay. Those living with memory loss, along with their caregivers and families are invited to attend the February Memory Café, hosted by Blue Skies Nursing in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association®. It’s from 1-2:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2, in the Community Room at the Heart of Steamboat United Methodist Church at 736 Oak Street. Events are free, but preregistration is requested. Volunteers Needed: Blue Skies Nursing is also seeking volunteers to help bring each Memory Café to life. Interested individuals can email Shani at shani@blueskiesnursing.com.

 

Today is the Groundhog Day Dinner in Yampa, at the Yampa Ladies Aid Hall. It’s a longstanding tradition, happening for over 80 years, hosted by the Yampa-Egeria Historical Society. The Groundhog Day Dinner is from 5-7 p.m. tonight, or until the food runs out. It’s all you can eat Biscuits & Gravy, with delicious sides and Linda Long’s homemade biscuits. It’s $8 for adults, and $4 for kids ages five to 11. Kids four and under are free. To-go meals are available. The Yampa Ladies Aid Hall is at 83 East First Street in Yampa.

Steamboat Springs athlete Alexa Brabec won her first World Cup of her career in Nordic Combined in Austria Friday. Steamboat’s Annika Malacinski was 6th. Then Brabec made the podium again, with a second place finish at a World Cup on Saturday.
