The Yampa River is open for tubing in Steamboat Springs. Life vests are recommended. No disposable containers like cans and glass bottles are allowed on the river. Please keep it clean. Don’t leave any trash or tubes out there. The best drop-off spot for private tubing is at Fetcher Park.  More on Summer Tubing

Steamboat Resort opens for summer operations today and will continue through Labor Day. This includes rides on the gondola, hiking tours, Land Up activities, and dining at Routtie’s Barbeque and the Oasis Sundeck. Sunset Happy Hour is also tonight, starting around 5 p.m. Season pass holders for the upcoming season can ride the gondola for free. It’s $25 for non-pass holders. Sunset Happy Hour

Coca-Cola Movies on the Mountain starts Saturday, up on the lawn at Torian Plum Plaza near the base. The movie is the Parent Trap and it starts around dusk, at 8:50 p.m. Full movie list

The Rainbow Gathering officially starts Friday but about 2,500 people have already arrived. Cars were lined up down the dirt roads in Moffat County, headed into northwest Routt County for the gathering last night. It’s on national forest land, up in a meadow. Camps and kitchens are along the ATV trail.

Chris Kelly lives in Hawaii most of the year. He was loading up a cart full of food and supplies to take up the trail to his campsite.

We also met Tenali Hrenak who took us on a tour of some of the kitchens and camps. One was called Lovin Ovens where they make pizzas and pastries.

Look for cyclists rolling  through Craig today and then on into Steamboat on Friday. It’s members of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, who are on the Journey of Hope North team. They’re on a 3,700 mile cross country journey for 63 days, from San Francisco through to Washington DC. The 22 cyclists are riding with The Ability Experience which raises awareness and support for people with disabilities. Then they’re off to Winter Park for the weekend. More on the story

Routt County United Way’s affiliate group, Women United, is selling 20-pound boxes of sweet, dark cherries for $75/box. They’ll be picked in Montana and delivered to Steamboat sometime in about a month. It’s a way to support the Women United programs which include early childhood literacy and adult financial literary. Order by July 15.

And finally… Zipper Merge. Use both lanes until the merge point.
