Repaving has started on city streets in Steamboat Springs. It’s a $1.7 million contract awarded to United Companies. They’ll apply about 8,000 tons of asphalt, remove more than 65,000 square yards of millings across 12 city streets and three alleys. The list of streets being done is below.

If it is your street, and it’s about to get done, you will get a notice on your door, asking you to not park on the street. And also asking for patience during the project. The repaving should be completed by June 18.

Press release from the City of Steamboat Springs; May 2023.

Crews Hitting The Streets For Annual Paving Program
2023 Program Tackles More Than A Dozen Roadways & Alleys

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-May 4, 2023-A tough winter like the Yampa Valley’s most recent one, which saw nearly 450 inches fall at the ski area’s mid-mtn location, shows the effect and damage that can occur to paved roadways and the importance of an annual paving maintenance program.

“This past winter put a beating on our streets,” commented Streets Superintendent David Van Winkle. “One season can severely impact our roadways and in our mountain environment constant attention and maintenance is required to ensure our streets stay in solid shape.”

The city will begin its annual paving and striping program around May 15, with paving expected to be completed around June 18, followed by striping/painting efforts beginning after Father’s Day and completed later that same month. Weather may cause delays and/or rescheduling United Companies, which was awarded the $1.7M contract, will apply approximately 8,000 tons of asphalt, and remove more than 65,000 sq yds of millings across twelve city streets and three alleys. Paving should take five days to mill and two weeks to fill with new asphalt.

The following list of tentative streets or portions of streets are scheduled to be re-paved or receive a surface treatment:

STREETS and ALLEYS
• Westend Village
• Curve Court (US40 to Shield Dr)
• Nob Street
• 5th Street (Oak to Pine)
• Short Street
• James Street
• 2nd Street (Maple to Harms Court)
• Fish Creek Falls Rd (3rd to Harwig Cir)
• Harwig Circle
• Telemark Court
• Medicine Springs
• Eagle Ridge Drive
• Diagon (West of Grand St)
• Pine to Aspen (8th to 9th)
• Broad (Nob to Park Ave)

City staff will work to minimize disruptions; however, residents are asked to be patient as delays and/or detours could be encountered during the project.
The Streets department maintains approximately 160 miles of streets, six miles of alleyways, 39 parking lots and 105 cul-de-sacs within city limits. Most of these roadways are paved, resulting in 1.34 million square yards of maintained pavement.
