The Veterans Center has now raised $2,240,000 for the renovation of their building in downtown Steamboat Springs. A $500K donation came in over the weekend through the Yampa Valley Community Foundation which kicked in the matching grant. The goal is to raise $3M but that is enough to get the first phase of construction started in the spring. Spectrum Construction out of Denver will be doing the work.

The Steamboat Springs Police Department is welcoming four new police officers to the force at a swearing in and pinning ceremony this evening. There are also two new hires and four recent promotions will be recognized. That’s at 6:30 p.m. tonight in the Combined Law Enforcement Facility on Shield Drive.

Kids in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Colorado have been wrapping up jewelry and other donated gifts for parents and grandparents. Kit Paulin helped gather together unloved jewelry in the community through the Rotary and local churches. She then made the jewelry available for the kids to pick and choose Christmas gifts for their family members. That’s what the Boys and Girls Club kids have done in Craig and Steamboat Springs.

“It’s very special because it’s been very, very fun for the children and for their loved ones that they give the gifts to.”

They’re calling it the Rhinestone Roundup and Gifts for Guys. Walmart donated the wrapping paper, and now the family members of those Boys & Girls Club kids in both Craig and Steamboat Springs are all set for the holidays.
