The grand opening celebration of the new Howelsen Hill Skatepark was Thursday afternoon.

The ribbon cutting included those on the Skatepark Steering Committee who designed it. That included 11-year-old Ellis Eavenson and his little brother. We asked Ellis how he helped.

“Putting in ideas, like the Spine or the skateboard. It’s a great skatepark.”

The new above-ground skatepark is for all skill levels with 40 features, including ramps, rails, boxes, ledges, and stairs.  There are also new sidewalks and picnic tables.

American Ramp Company, a leading skatepark designer, also worked with the group to envision, plan, and conceptualize the flow of the new park. In addition, professional skateboarders and designers, Julie Brueckler & Cody McEntire, collaborated in imagining a combination of features that maximized the space and met the requirements as outlined by the committee.

Here are some pictures from Thursday’s ribbon cutting celebration.
