The D1 ski racing program at Colorado Mountain College will likely be discontinued after the 2025-26 season. CMC sends word that the student athletes have been notified.
A press release from the college says, “The announcement follows an extensive review of the program’s financial sustainability and overall feasibility during the past five years.”
The alpine ski team at CMC has been on the Steamboat Springs campus for more than two decades. The website shows 14 athletes registered on the team on last year’s roster.
Feedback from team members and their families will be presented to the CMC Board of Trustees at their meetings on Dec. 11 and Jan. 14, with a final decision coming after that.

The avalanche danger is still considered moderate after last week’s big snowstorm. Here is a spokesperson from the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.
“Don’t let sunny skies and warming temperatures trick you into thinking the avalanche conditions are safe. You can trigger large and deadly avalanches that break in weak snow near the ground on many slopes.”

Trees and homes are being decorated for the holidays, throughout the country and here in Northwest Colorado. Brian Erhart is with SavATree which recently decorated the large trees along Hwy 40 in Hayden, among others. He says to have a plan.
“Planning what you’re going to do before you get up on a ladder, and having the right equipment with you. Knowing your limits, not going too high on a ladder or up on a roof. We really try to avoid getting on a roof at all costs, really, especially when we get snow and moisture on a roof.”
Erhart says always use a sturdy ladder and make sure it’s on level ground. Wear good shoes with good traction. Don’t install lights when it is snowing or windy and work with a partner. Also check lights and cords, and outlets, and keep those connections off wet ground. When in doubt, call a professional for help.
