Routt County Public Health is encouraging the community to get vaccinated against measles. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says there are more than 500 confirmed cases of measles in the United States and one recent case in southern Colorado. Routt County Public Health says it is especially important before leaving for spring break.

Coloradans can check their or their child’s immunization records through the Colorado Immunization Information System (CIIS) Public Portal

Local pharmacies like Safeway, City Market, and Walgreens are vaccinated, as is Routt County Public Health and your local health provider.

Personal stories of suicide and discrimination were the topics at a presentation and panel discussion with STAND, which is Steamboat Team to Disrupt Antisemitism and Discrimination, Thursday. Anna Allsberry is with REPS, which is Reaching Everyone Preventing Suicide. She said the presentation was to raise awareness about suicide and discrimination, and how it affects real people in our community.

“If it evens impacts one person in a positive way, I think it makes all the difference. So I hope that people leave feeling like they’re important and they are empowered to help others.”

Greg Griffin with Steamboat Springs Police has been promoted to Police Operations Commander. Griffin is a 10-year law enforcement veteran.

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-April 3, 2025-Greg Griffin, a 10-year law enforcement veteran with the Steamboat Springs Police Department (SSPD), has been promoted to Police Operations Commander.

“We’re very happy to be able to promote Greg, who has been an instrumental part of this department for many years and has worked closely in developing and implementing the SSPD strategic plan as well as filling key training and tactical roles,” said Chief Mark Beckett. “Greg and his family are active members of the community, and we know he’ll do a great job leading our patrol officers.”

In this leadership role, Commander Griffin is responsible for the 22 sworn (six sergeants and 16 officers) members of patrol operations, including participation in the Routt County Combined SWAT Team.

Most recently, Griffin served as police sergeant responsible for a team of patrol officers. Prior to his patrol responsibilities, he was a detective with the department for two years working on some of the city’s high-profile cases. His tenure with SSPD included working as a patrol officer for four years and a community service officer for two years.

Griffin is a member of the Northwest Colorado Post Board, the 14th Judicial District’s Critical Incident Response Team, team leader for the Routt County Combined SWAT Team and an instructor at the Colorado Mountain College’s CLETA training academy. He was awarded the SSPD’s Jeff Wilson Memorial Leader of the Year in 2024.
