YVHA Executive Director Jason Peasley and Board Prepare for Mutual Separation
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO — At its March 2 board meeting, the Board of Directors of the Yampa Valley Housing Authority (YVHA) directed YVHA’s attorney to prepare a mutual separation agreement with Executive Director Jason Peasley that will be voted on at the March 12th board meeting, marking the conclusion of a transformative chapter for workforce housing in Steamboat Springs.
During his tenure, Peasley led YVHA through a period of historic growth and impact. Through strategic use of the YVHA mill levy, strong public-private partnerships, and the successful leveraging of federal, state, and philanthropic grants, YVHA delivered 401 new homes in Steamboat Springs—housing designed to ensure that local workers can continue to live in the community they serve.
“Jason’s leadership over the past several years has fundamentally changed the landscape of housing in Steamboat Springs,” said YVHA Board Chair Kathi Meyer. “He built and strengthened partnerships at every level — locally, statewide, and nationally — and successfully leveraged the YVHA mill levy alongside federal, state, and philanthropic funding to create 401 homes for our workforce. His ability to bring together public and private partners to achieve shared goals has left a lasting impact on our community.”
Peasley brought both academic rigor and practical expertise to the role. With a Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Michigan State University, he began his career as a city planner for the City of Steamboat Springs, where he developed deep knowledge of urban development, zoning, and long-range planning. As Executive Director of YVHA, he spearheaded transformative housing initiatives and helped elevate affordable and attainable housing as a central priority for local decision-makers.
“It has been the honor of my lifetime to serve the workforce of Steamboat Springs,” said Peasley. “Building housing and elevating the issue of affordability with our community’s decision-makers has always been about one simple goal — making it easier for those who work here to live here. I am deeply proud of what our team has accomplished together and the heart and soul they have dedicated to the community.”
In recognition of his leadership on affordable and attainable housing, Governor Jared Polis appointed Peasley to serve on the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority Board in 2023.
Beyond the projects themselves, Peasley’s tenure was defined by his commitment to partnership and collaboration, bridging governmental entities, private developers, and philanthropic organizations to deliver shared community outcomes. His leadership helped position YVHA as a statewide model for innovative housing solutions.
The Board emphasized that YVHA’s mission and momentum remain strong. The organization’s dedicated staff will continue advancing critical housing initiatives, including the homeownership opportunities at The Cottonwoods, future development at Hilltop, housing opportunities on U.S. Forest Service land, and should the community choose to move forward, future housing at Brown Ranch.
“Our talented and committed staff remain focused on delivering housing solutions for our community,” Meyer said. “The work continues, and we are confident in the team’s ability to carry this mission forward.”
The YVHA Board will meet on March 12th at their regular public meeting to vote on the mutual separation agreement and discuss the next steps for identifying new leadership of YVHA.
