In a post office update…
There is a community called the Adamstown Borough in Pennsylvania. Residents there started contacting their U.S. Congressman, Lloyd Smucker, about how it wasn’t fair that they had to pay for a P.O. Box when they had no other way to get their mail. Congressman Smucker’s office shared on his website (Link to story) that the District Manager in Pennsylvania reviewed how people were being charged for a P.O. Box and they shouldn’t be. That manager then decided that each household in the Adamstown Borough gets a free box if they didn’t have street delivery.
The District Manager in Pennsylvania went even further and said customers may request refunds for up to 24 months of P.O. Box fees that were paid, when they shouldn’t have been. He attached the Postal Service Refund Form.
We sent the article to James Boxrud with the USPS Corporate office in Denver. Steamboat Radio News has been in regular contact with Boxrud since January. Boxrud said because another District Manager authorized a refund in the country, he was going to forward the email to the USPS national representative based in Denver to see when this can happen in Colorado.
Boxrud added that the district team is still looking into Steamboat Springs residents getting free P.O. Boxes, and he will keep us posted.
We also asked about the trash dumpster behind the post office that is the frequent target of hungry bears that leave trash all over behind the post office on Fish Creek Falls Road. Boxrud said because of our email, the bear proof bar is being put across the dumpster there each evening now.
Here is more on the Blog Post from Congressman Smucker’s office.

Additionally, customers may request refunds for up to 24 months of PO Boxes fees paid… Customers can submit the attached form to the Adamstown Post Office if they wish to apply for this refund.
