21-year-old Carver Davis from Steamboat Springs turned himself in to the Routt County Jail this week after Colorado State Patrol filed charges against him on Monday. It involves a crash in Walden on Sept. 21. Eighteen-year-old Azucena Borrero Conde died and another woman was injured. Colorado State Patrol says Davis allegedly missed a 90-degree curve and then ran into the two women in the bowling alley parking lot in Walden. Charges include Vehicular Homicide, Reckless Driving, and Vehicular Assault-Reckless. Bond was set at $10,000 and Davis did bond out. He has a court date next Tuesday morning, Dec. 10, at the Jackson County Courthouse in Walden.

UPDATE: Fatal Crash in Jackson County

Criminal charges filed

Steamboat resident Carver Davis (21) has been named in an arrest warrant issued by the Eighth Judicial District Attorney’s office following the Colorado State Patrol’s investigation of a fatal crash in Walden, Colorado on September 21st of this year that claimed the life of one 18-year-old women and severely injured another.

The 21-year-old man was driving a Chevrolet Silverado Southbound on Main Street that night when his truck traveled off the left side of the road at a 90-degree curve and collided with Molly Smith and Borrero Azucena Del Pilar who were standing outside of a vehicle in a bowling alley parking lot.  Azucena Del Pilar was killed on scene and Smith was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

The Colorado State Patrol secured an arrest warrant for Davis for the following charges.

Vehicular Homicide – reckless – a class IV felony

Vehicular assault – reckless – a class V felony

Davis is cooperating with law enforcement and has turned himself into the Routt County Jail.

The controversial Mad Rabbit Trails Project is set to receive $1.6 million from the City of Steamboat Springs. It will support 13 different trails, along with trailheads and amenities associated with the Mad Rabbit project, to be built on Rabbit Ears Pass. City Council approved the resolution in a 5-2 vote Tuesday night.

Yampa Valley Gives Rally 2023

There is a rally for Yampa Valley Gives at noon today at the Routt County Courthouse.

 

 

Nonprofits from Moffat County and the Yampa Valley gathered in Craig Wednesday to celebrate the 11th year of Yampa Valley Gives Day.

“Yampa Valley Gives is an incredible program. We’re now in our 11th year. It brings together the community to give to all of the important organizations that are doing incredible work in the Yampa Valley.”

That’s Holly Wilson with Yampa Valley Community Foundation.

Craig Mayor Chris Nichols told the group, “Many of you provide the services that bring us together as a community. Thank you for doing it.”

The Yampa Valley Gives program raised $1.3 million for local nonprofits last year. Yampa Valley Gives Day is next Tuesday. Donations can be made now to any of the over 100 nonprofits participating through YVGives.org

The festival of trees in Craig continues at the Yampa Building. You can vote on your favorite tree through Dec. 14. Winners will be announced Dec. 16.

 

The Routt County Humane Society offers a 3-week Puppy Obedience Class. It starts tonight.  Register here

 

The Park Ranger District in Walden is hosting a Christmas Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, in their District Office Building at 100 Main Street in Walden. There will be a baked potato bar, Christmas crafts, and some pre-cut Christmas trees available for purchase. Everyone is invited.

 

The Steamboat Sailors Boys Basketball team starts the season on the road with a tournament in Montrose today. Here is Head Coach Michael Van Dahl.
