One-thousand Post Office Box holders in Steamboat Springs have a letter and a PS 1093 form in their P.O. Box today. (Copies are below.) James Boxrud came up from the Corporate Office in Denver and helped staff put them in 1,000 P.O. Boxes this weekend.
The 6,053 other P.O. Box holders in Steamboat will have the letter and form in their P.O. Box later this week, as all forms are being printed in Denver and then sent up.
“These letters are very important. We’re asking the entire community to go ahead and fill them out and return them to the post office.”
James Boxrud says it is very important that every P.O. Box holder fill out this 1093 form that’s waiting for you.
“We’re trying to determine where you live and then we’ll be able to determine from there whether you get delivery or if you are eligible for the Group E box which is a free box.”
Then the postal service will go over these forms and determine who should not have to pay for a P.O. Box. Boxrud says there are just over 2,000 people in the community. Once that is determined, you’ll get your P.O. Box for free, and then he says you will get reimbursed for up to two years.
Boxrud says it is a long process but he is hoping it will be finished by early next year.
“It’s going to be still a process. We have 7,000 of these to process. It’s going to take a little bit of time. But this is just the next step to get all of our addresses on the 1093 form and then we’ll compare it to where we don’t deliver and you’ll be eligible for a Group E Box, which is free.”
So make sure you fill out the form that is in your P.O. Box. You will need to attach two forms of identification such as a driver’s license, passport, or copy of your mortgage or insurance policy. But this is how your P.O. Box will eventually be free.
Also, the Steamboat Springs Post Office has a new postmaster. He is Alex Garza who is moving here from the Edwards Post Office in Eagle County. He started Saturday.
Print this form and turn it into the Steamboat Springs Post office, if you didn’t receive it yet in your P.O. Box.
