High-performing schools and districts in Colorado, including some from Northwest Colorado, are being recognized at an awards ceremony in Denver today. The Colorado Department of Educationis giving 371 awards including:

  • South Routt RE-3, Steamboat Springs RE-2, and Meeker RE-1 School Districts are being honored with the Accredited with Distinction Award.
  • SoRoCo Middle School, Steamboat Montessori, North Routt Community Charter School, and Fraser Valley Elementary Schools are receiving the Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award and the John Irwin Award.
  • The Maybell School in Moffat County and Steamboat Springs Middle School are receiving the John Irwin Award.

The ceremony is at 1:30 p.m. today at the Denver Art Museum.

Crack and seal work continues on 131, for about 3.5 miles south of Highway 40 today. Colorado Department of Transportation is doing the work from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Expect delays of up to ten minutes.

Median work is also being done this week along US Hwy 40 from Walton Creek Road to 3rd Street. Left lanes will be closed in both directions. Drivers should expect delays.

The City of Steamboat Springs has announced which streets, alleys, and parking lots will be paved this summer. The list is on our website. Work begins May 11 and will last through June 20, followed by striping. Weather conditions may impact the schedule.

Sarah JonesBallots for the Board of Directors for Yampa Valley Electric will be mailed out May 22. Incumbent Ray DuBois is running uncontested in District 2 which is Sunbeam, Maybell, and Craig. Sasha Nelson is also an uncontested incumbent for District 3 which is the City of Craig. District 6 is Steamboat Springs and North Routt. Incumbent Tom Fox has two challengers in the election. They are Lisa Rosintoski and Sarah Jones. Ballots will be due June 18.

Lisa Eifling, Detective/ School Resource Officer, with Steamboat Springs Police is speaking at today’s Parent Information Committee (PIC) meeting at Steamboat Springs High School. She talks about ways we can support the mental and emotional health of our kids. The talk is at noon at the high school.

 

The Moffat County Board of County Commissioners is meeting today with Road & Bridge Department Director, Dan Miller, and City of Craig Road & Bridge Director Shane Baker, to discuss hunting season dumpsters.

 

Craig City Council meets at 6:30 p.m. tonight. One presentation is from Jim McCormick with an update on the local CASA organization, which is the Northwest Rocky Mountain Court Appointed Special Advocates. Staff reports are from Road and Bridge Director Shane Baker, Water and Wastewater Director Carl Ray, and Building Official Marlin Eckhoff.

 

April 28 – SSHS LAX 5:30 p.m. game vs. Lutheran at SSHS. We’ll be there with the play-by-play on KTYV 105.7 Sports on FM and on the Steamboat Radio YouTube Channel, which is all available through our website.
