UPDATE to this story at 4:46 p.m. Monday — This is from James Boxrud with USPS Strategic Communications. “Since our deliveries are expanding, we need to dedicate more space to our carriers. In order to maximize our building, we are moving 1250 Post Office Box customers from the 88 side to the 77 side. Every customer on the 88 side has received a notice of the change. If the letter was misplaced, they can still come in and transfer service to their new box on the 77 side. As an incentive, those individuals will receive an extension of the POB due date since they will have to change their address. All employees are aware and have been working on this and so far, about 500 customers have taken advantage.”

He adds that they are aware of the problem listed and posted below and that “it was quickly resolved.”

We also asked about the status of the 1093 forms that P.O. Box holders are supposed to be filling out to get a free P.O. Box if they have no other way to get their mail. Here is that answer today. “We are not counting the total number of 1093 updates received, but we are processing all of them appropriately as they are received.”

 

 

Steamboat Radio News continues to receives texts and emails with details on frustrations at the local Steamboat Springs Post Office. The new main issue is those having to switch from the 80488 side of the post office to the 80477 side. It’s to make more room for the local delivery services.

The following post was made Monday on a local Facebook page. The name has been redacted.

 

Other frustrations posted include:

• Don’t forget to have them uncap your new 77 box once you get it. They forgot ours and all mail was sent back.
• Thank you for posting this. We got the notice but it says call the post master with questions but there is no number. The main number gives no option for these kind of questions.
• Shannon, would it be possible to talk to you about the post office fiasco?
• Shannon, listen to this. As you may recall we talked about po boxes a few weeks ago. I paid mine on 4/1, 47 years of having the same box. So the other day i go to get my mail. Can’t get in i have the same key for all 47 years. Tried my spare, no luck. So now i have to go back during business hours and see why they put a new lock on my box which you can clearly see was replaced. The kicker is it’s calving season so we never get to town until evening. The saga continues. Those guys are the worst i have seen since we got the box. Thought you might like to hear this.

 

HOW TO CONTACT THE POST OFFICE

We reached out to USPS in Denver, and those who work with media. Here are your options, according to James Boxrud with Strategic Communications with the United States Postal Service..

• Go to the USPS website and click on Contact Us. It’s in the bottom left hand corner under “HELPFUL LINKS.” Look for the Email Us tab. Fill out the online form and hit submit.
• Twitter is an option that was provided. Tweet to @USPSHelp. It’s monitored by “Social Media staff at USPS HQ.
• The last option suggested was how you can speak to someone. Call 1-800-ASK-USPS® (1-800-275-8777). If it is after hours, call 303-853-6185.

Boxrud says emails and calls are documented and “appropriate action (will be) taken to strengthen service.”

When mail service issues occur, we take steps to quickly resolve customer concerns. We gladly work to address any specific issue from the community when brought to our attention and we encourage customers to reach out to their local postal station. There are several options to contact an office and a few of these options are listed below.

Customers can go to our website usps.com and click on “Contact us” at the bottom of our homepage, or utilize this direct web address: Email Us | USPS  Every email will be carefully documented, and appropriate action taken to strengthen service.

In addition, the official Twitter account of the United States Postal Service, managed by the Social Media staff at USPS HQ, can provide help. For customer service, please tweet @USPSHelp. The Postal Service will diligently continue to investigate customer’s concerns and correct deficiencies to improve service to our communities.

If a customer does not have access to the internet or would prefer to speak to a customer care agent, they can call USPS at 1-800-ASK-USPS® (1-800-275-8777).

Hours of Operation Monday – Friday 8 AM – 8:30 PM ET Saturday 8 AM – 6 PM ET

If a customer has a concern after hours or would like to leave a voicemail, they can contact 303-853-6185. The voicemails will be entered into our system and customers will be contacted shortly after.

 

One more reminder, if you do have to change your P.O. Box number from the 80488 side to the 80477 side, remember to change your address with the Secretary of State’s office to get your ballot in the fall. Here’s that link.
